Simple Marketing Basics & Good Practices

Whether you are a newly appointed marketing director, or a business owner who is trying to get a grip on some very fundamental marketing practices & ideas, this list is for you. Below is a quick run down of what to keep in mind as  you start to develop and implement your digital marketing strategy.

Let’s get started!

– Keep the ideal client (your core avatar) in mind.

– Work with the big picture in mind, but win towards it on the day-to-day.

– As the marketing rep for the agency, remember that every interaction you have with people outside of the agency is both marketing & wordless brand building.

– Don’t forget to work on your back end (the places prospects will visit to learn more about you before purchasing – your website, your social channels, the informative videos that live there, etc.).

– Because marketing is telling the world what you do, it is important that evidence exists that supports those claims (where your testimonials, case studies, website look & feel, and social posts come into play).

– One of the best ways to gauge your marketing efforts is to have your sales team ask each new prospect that calls in, how they heard about you. Even if they say from a friend, ask who, note it down, and send that referrer a thank you, at minimal.

– Ensure you or the sales team ask for referrals and testimonials after a client has had a great experience working with you. Make it easy for your clients to also leave you reviews on Google, Facebook, and wherever else your prospects may see information about you.

– Marketing has new and intricate levels, but overall keep it simple by remembering these fundamentals:

1. Build up awareness (attention)

2. Nurture Interest by building up trust and certainty. You do this by informing, educating & proactively answering their questions

3. Consideration – when a prospect is here, they will evaluate all they know about you at this point and marry it up with how badly they desire what you provide, or how likely you will alleviate the pain they are trying to avoid.

4. Action (they purchase)

There are more levels within these fundamentals, but keep it simple and use this as your basic building blocks.

– Lastly, be sure that you and the sales team/manager meet on a regular basis to ensure both departments are continuously on the same page. Be sure what is being marketed (a certain message, experience or offer), matches up to the message the prospect is hearing from the sales team, the experience they have throughout, and the offer that is being offered to them.

If you keep these concepts in mind, you will stay on track. The tactics and technologies are always changing, but the fundamentals stay the same.
